Africa Aweee –

A Future Hub for Cape Town

In March last year, inspired by the success of the original Future Hub in Kisumu and supported by Make me Smile, we initiated Future Hub Hout Bay in Cape Town as a replication project. Leveraging the IT expertise of Andy, we aimed to equip young women and girls from Imizamo Yethu township with essential digital skills, opening new doors to their future.

Quickly we found an ideal venue and passionate trainers, Vuyiseka and Zameka, two young women from the community with a passion for education. Once we signed the contract of the venue, we painted the walls in a joyful yellow, symbolizing the light of hope that will fill the room. After an intensive six-week training with Andy, our project took off. At half time, Ashley, one of our top three students, joined the team and has become an invaluable support to our trainers.

The collaboration across continents – from our team in Vienna to Andy’s expertise spanning from Spain to Ireland, and our ground team in Hout Bay – has fostered a dynamic and supportive team culture.

On the first of December the „Class of 2023“ with 15 graduates, some with ICDL certifications graduated. The second semester started mid-January and is still ongoing. A standout moment was our „Open Friday“ event on International Women’s Day, where inspirational talks from local female entrepreneurs inspired our students, alumni and trainers. This initiative underscores Future Hubs role not only as an educational institution but also as a plattform for inspiration and empowerment, driven by collaborative spirit both locally and internationally.

Thank you for your work <3
